Beaugrenelle shopping centre

7,000 m²
of green roofs

Entirely rebuilt by Bouygues Construction, the shopping mall, which originally dates back to the 1970s, forms part of the Front de Seine regeneration project, intended to make this district of Paris more dynamic and attractive.

In just two and a half years, Bouygues has produced a new-generation complex entirely devoted to shopping and leisure activities, including 120 retail outlets and a 10-screen multiplex cinema.

The project takes inspiration from the great Parisian department stores: featuring large glass surfaces, the centre consists of two precincts situated on either side of a busy street, joined together by a decorative metal pedestrian footbridge. The construction process entailed complex logistics, as teams were required to work on a site with very restricted access and in the centre of the Front de Seine district.

The new Beaugrenelle shopping centre is a decisively 21st century complex, with a modern design and very high environmental performance. It is the only shopping centre to have double HQE® and BREEAM® Very Good certification, in recognition of its exemplary achievements.

The buildings have double glazed facades, which ensure more efficient insulation and make it possible to reduce the use of artificial light. The major innovation consists of the entirely green roof covering 7,000 m² making it, the largest green roof in Paris.

Several thousand plants and flowers, all species native to the Paris region, have been planted in order to help preserve biodiversity and provide local residents with an attractive landscape. This habitat serves as a sanctuary for a number of species of birds (blackbirds, tits, greenfinches, robins, etc.) and also reduces the discharge of rainwater.
